This week has been a reminder that the drama does not end once the cameras stop rolling.
And nobody knows that more than Bravo’s “Real Housewives” of Orange County and New York.
In the more dramatic news, the OC’s Vicki Gunvalson, 45, reports receiving a death threat from a deranged female fan. According to E! News, Vicki received a phone call from the woman, who supposedly wants *payback* for something Vicki said to her castmate and *friend* (I use that term oh so loosely) Jeana Keough.
“Vicki did get a threatening call from a fan who was watching the show and she didn’t like something Vicki said to Jeana Keough. Jeana also got an e-mail at home containing a direct threat to Vicki,” confirms Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jim Amormino.
The official went on to say that the woman was “taking the show way too seriously.”
The e-mail evidently suggested that potential acts of violence might be committed against Vicki. Specifically, a phrase along the lines of “I’ll take care of Vicki” was apparently uttered.
Never fear: The authorities are all over it.
“It is a criminal threat and we are pursuing it aggressively,” Amormino says.
Meanwhile, the East Coast chickies are determined not to let Vicki show them up. Word came down today that Countess Luann de Lesseps has split from her husband, the Count.
(And frankly, I’m not surprised. Who wants to be with a guy who looks like Dracula and spends all of his time counting batty bats and claps of thunder?)
Anyway, this information comes via the New York Post (for which a friend of mine works, not that I’m name dropping or anything, Jacobo), which quotes a friend of Luann’s as saying, “They decided to separate. She got wind he was seeing somebody, and he didn’t answer her when she called. He finally sent her an e-mail saying he was with an Ethiopian woman in Geneva, and he was serious with her.”
This news left Luann in shock, the source says, especially since the couple just celebrated their 16th anniversary on March 16.
“Luann was blindsided,” the source says. “She was just devastated. They have basically lived apart for many years – he lives in Europe and comes and goes as he pleases, but she never thought this would happen.”
The ever-chatty source went on to say: “It has been very rough for her and the children, but she’s taking the high road and will remain friends with him. She has no intention of making it bitter or becoming angry. She’s just trying to come to terms with (it). She feels this is the ultimate test for her to handle this with dignity and grace.”
A representative for Luann says, “It is obviously a very difficult time for the countess and count, but they plan to remain friends and their primary focus will be to do what is best for their two children.”
Hopefully this hasn’t put a complete damper on Luann’s plans to party like it’s 1999 when her book, “Class with the Countess,” is released on April 16. In fact, I gather that it does not, considering Luann reportedly told friends that no matter what happens “I will always be the countess.”
And she most certainly will, once she gets those nice fat alimony and child support checks! Oh, and $24 from you for her book. (Well, it is hardcover. Don’t be such a cheapskate!)
