“Man vs. Food” meets its match at the Rutgers grease trucks

Can you imagine stuffing five “Fat Sandwiches” from the Rutgers grease trucks in your face within 45 minutes?

You'd better bring a big appetite with you when you visit the Rutgers grease trucks.

You'd better bring a big appetite with you when you visit the Rutgers grease trucks.

I certainly can’t, but “Man Vs. Food” host Adam Richman was up to the challenge.

Or so he thought. The Travel Channel host managed to scarf down four of the ginormous sandwiches – typical ingredients include chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks and French fries – during a visit to New Brunswick this week, but choked (perhaps literally) after swallowing the fourth monstrosity.

(Watch Richman consume a Boston burger:)

Richman’s attempt to win the Fat Sandwich Challenge at the RU Hungry grease truck may have been in vain (the winner gets a sandwich named after them), but he’s definitely not the only one to have attempted it. Rutgers’ paper The Daily Targum quotes truck owner Ayman Elnaggar as saying about 250 people have tried to down the requisite number of sandwiches in the last five years. Of those, 16 were successful.

Richman’s visit to the Rutgers grease trucks – which you can read more about here – airs Dec. 9 on The Travel Channel.
