It’s hard to believe it’s only been two years since a little movie called “Twilight” first hit theaters. And, to be completely honest, until just recently I hadn’t paid it the slightest bit of attention.

Until now, that is. NOW, I get it.

Better late than never, eh?

And it certainly didn’t hurt my new-to-the-party attitude when I heard via People that hot-hottie-hot “Twilight Saga” star Robert Pattinson shares his family tree with none other than Vlad the Impaler, aka Dracula.

According to genealogists at my favorite genealogy site, Ancestry.com, both Rob and Vlad are distantly related to one another via the British royal family.

“Tracing Pattinson’s family back to Vlad was difficult research, but the pieces that unraveled created the perfect accompaniment to the ‘Twilight Saga,'” said Ancestry.com genealogist Anastasia Tyler in a quote from the article. “Without any myth or magic, we find royalty and vampires lurking in Pattinson’s life – making his story just as supernatural as the one he’s playing on screen.”

Perhaps the reason why Robert signed on to do the “Twilight” films is because he felt an affinity for pesky bloodsuckers. Although, to be honest, Vlad did a bit more than just suck blood. His nickname is The Impaler.

But hold up – Robert isn’t the only “Twilight-y” person related to Vlad. Oh, no. The author whose dream started all the madness – Stephenie Meyer – can also trace her bloodlines right back to that castle in Romania.

Hey, it beats being related to Renfield, doesn’t it?

Heeeere's Robby! His obsession with Jack Nicholson (below) certainly comes through in this picture, doesn't it?/Photo credit The Associated Press
