“Real Housewives of New Jersey”: Send in the clowns (don’t bother, they’re here!)

I really don’t have much to say about last night’s finale of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” – which featured the much-ballyhooed showdown between loose cannon Danielle Staub and fierce mother cub Caroline Manzo – other than it was kind of uncomfortable to watch and really rather silly.

Then again, anything would probably pale in comparison to last year’s table-flipping treat.

Although this season’s country club hair-pulling incident was pretty entertaining.

I do think Danielle held her own, lobbing a couple of good zingers in Caroline’s direction, including “How’s that going for all your friends that are under indictments right now?”

(But on the other hand, that was completely off topic. What do Caroline’s friends have to do with the subject at hand?)

And Caroline’s clown comment seemed a bit random. Crazy beeyotch, yes. Clown? Not so much. And apparently Danielle thought it was a bit funny, too.

“I’m a clown?” Danielle asked, almost breaking into a grin. “Really? You saying this sitting there with red hair? I’m the clown?”

About the only thing this encounter accomplished was prove that Danielle still isn’t ready to admit that she’s wrong or has done anything to make this situation with the Manzos/Giudices worse. Her refusal to take responsibility for her *friend* Danny Provenzano’s verbal attack on Caroline’s son, Christopher, at The Brownstone proves it. Sure, she’s not the one who called Christopher a f***ot, but she should have nipped it in the bud when it first came out of Danny’s mouth.

Just as Caroline warned her sister-in-law Jacqueline Laurita earlier this season, “You hang around garbage, and you start to stink.”

And after watching this very long, rather disappointing season, I am feeling the need to take a shower myself.

According to its website, The Abbey isn't even open on Sundays. So Caroline and Danielle - and Bravo's cameras, natch - had the whole place to themselves.

By the way, Danielle and Caroline’s meeting took place at The Abbey, a restaurant which is part of the Ramsey Golf and Country Club, in Ramsey. With the women’s history at country clubs, you’d think Caroline would have selected another venue…
