Only in Jersey: 2/7/12

Welcome to another edition of Only in Jersey!

If it’s filming in Jersey, takes place in Jersey, or is about celebs from Jersey, you will find it here.

Bobby Cannavale: I'm not sure that handgun existed in the 1920's.

While “Boardwalk Empire” is technically filmed in New York, the Atlantic City-based series is Jersey, through and through.

This terrific HBO series is so dedicated to the Garden State that it’s replacing one Jersey actor with another! The departure of West Orange-born Michael Pitt, whose much beloved character Jimmy Darmody bit the bullet at the end of the second season, is tempered by the announcement that Union City’s Bobby Cannavale is joining the third-season cast. Entertainment Weekly reports Bobby will be a major stick in Nucky Thompson’s (Steve Buscemi) craw as far as the bootlegging business is concerned. Bobby also starred in the 2003 film “The Station Agent” alongside fellow New Jerseyan Peter Dinklage (star of fellow HBO series “Game of Thrones”) and was filmed in Newfoundland and surrounding N.J. areas.

Despite the cancellation of his TNT series last year, South Orange’s Andre Braugher continues to prove he is among the most wanted “Men of a Certain Age.” Andre has been tapped as the lead in “Last Resort,” an ABC drama pilot about a nuclear submarine crew who become fugitives after disobeying a suspect order, reports Deadline Hollywood.

Mimi Alford

She asserts that she lost her virginity during an affair with the most powerful man in the world while she was a White House intern in her new book, “Once Upon a Secret: My Affair with President John F. Kennedy and its Aftermath,” but did you know Mimi Alford is a Rumson native? The Star-Ledger reveals that Mimi, who talks to Meredith Vieira on Wednesday’s “Rock Center with Brian Williams” (9 p.m., NBC), hails from an affluent Monmouth County family. According to Mimi, she last saw Kennedy just days before his assassination. “I wish you were coming with me to Texas,” Mimi recalls Kennedy telling her. “I’ll call you when I get back.”

And I end today’s edition of Only in Jersey with a hilarious recap of last week’s episode of “Jersey Shore,” performed by none other than Gary Oldman (how’s that for random?) on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” Now if only the MTV series was anywhere near as entertaining as Gary’s recitation…
