Despite speculation to the contrary, Whitney Houston’s family has no plans to hold a public memorial for the late singer, who died February 11 in Los Angeles, California. Whitney will be remembered during an invitation-only funeral service beginning at noon on Saturday, February 18, at her childhood church, New Hope Baptist, in Newark. There is, however, talk that the singer will be buried in Westfield’s Fairview Cemetery. TMZ reports Whitney will be laid to rest beside her father, John Russell Houston Jr., who died in 2003, because that was what she wanted. Newark, meanwhile, is preparing for a crush of fans and onlookers during Saturday’s celebrity-filled, somber ceremony. “Obviously Whitney Houston was one of the greatest performers of our time, and certainly we expect a huge presence of other performers, actors and we’re preparing for all that,” the city’s police director, Samuel DeMaio, told The Star-Ledger. And New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie ordered that state flags be lowered to half-staff on Saturday in Whitney’s memory.

Artie Lange: Back in business.

Comedian Artie Lange is returning to the New Jersey stage. The Union Township native will perform stand up at Red Bank’s Count Basie Theatre on Saturday, April 7, at 8 p.m. Artie, who formerly appeared on Fox’s “Mad TV” and Howard Stern’s radio show, is currently cohosting, along with fellow comedian Nick DiPaolo, “The Nick and Artie Show” on Fox News Radio. Tickets, $39 to $125, for Artie’s show go on sale at noon Friday (February 17). More information is available by calling the box office at 732-842-9000 or by visiting the theater’s website.

JWOWW and Snooki: Jersey makes, the world takes.

The Italian American One Voice Coalition was so pleased that “Jersey Shore” stars Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Jenni “JWOWW” Farley were denied an application to film in Hoboken that they intend to award the city’s mayor for her decision, reports NBC New York. Tonight the group plans to present its Una Voce award to Mayor Dawn Zimmer, who denied the as-yet-untitled MTV reality show filming rights, citing concerns that residents’ quality of life would be comprised. The Italian American One Voice Coalition fights negative stereotypes of Italian Americans. The show, meanwhile, has since found a home in neighboring Jersey City, whose mayor, Jerramiah Healy, said he welcomes the attention.
