Only in Jersey: 3/1/12

It’s the first of March – Bunny Bunny to you! It’s time for another edition of Only in Jersey!

If it’s filming in Jersey, takes place in Jersey, or is about celebs from Jersey, you will find it here.

"Property Virgins": Taking a bite out of Central New Jersey./Photo credit HGTV

Recent episodes of HGTV’s “Property Virgins” with new host Egypt Sherrod were filmed all over Central New Jersey last summer. This week’s episode, titled “Love at First Site,” features a newlywed couple from Staten Island who look at homes in Red Bank, Hazlet, Old Bridge, and Matawan. That episode repeats at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 19. A second Jersey-centric episode, “Character Building,” centers on a single mom looking for a home in Dunellen. That episode repeats at 6 p.m. Monday, March 19. While I miss “Property Virgins'” original host, Sandra Rinomato, I appreciate the new season’s tri-state house searches and think Egypt does a good job hosting the show. (Unlike the mess HGTV made of my other favorite series, “Real Estate Intervention.”)

NBC New York reports that Newark’s Whigham Funeral Home has received vicious threats in the wake of the National Enquirer publishing a photo of Whitney Houston’s body in her casket, which was reportedly taken by someone during a private viewing on Feb. 17 at the facility. “We are being innocently accused,” said Carolyn Whigham, owner of the funeral home, during a news conference today. “I want to clear my name, I want to clear my funeral home… I want to defend my character and my name.” A spokesman for the funeral home confirmed that it has received “hateful emails” and other threats. Carolyn Whigham said she has been spit at in the face and fears for her own safety as well as her family’s. Only three funeral home employees had access to Whitney’s body, Carolyn Whigham confirmed, as well as 15 people the Houston family hired as security guards.

Anthony Bourdain: Is it any surprise his taste in films is as eclectic as his taste in food?/Photo credit Travel Channel

Outspoken celebrity chef, television host, and world traveler Anthony Bourdain has been chosen to present his favorite films as part of Turner Classic Movies’ “Guest Programmer” showcase. The Leonia native, who hosts “Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations” and “The Layover” on the Travel Channel, will present his favorite films along with TCM host Robert Osborne on Tuesday, April 10. Anthony’s selections include the western “The Searchers” (1956), the French-Italian thriller “Eyes Without a Face” (1960, and not to be confused with the Billy Idol song of the same name), the British crime film “Get Carter” (1971), and the comedy/drama “Withnail & I” (1987).
