Is Cher in love with a Jersey boy?

Bruce Springsteen may extol the virtues of Garden State women in “Jersey Girl,” but evidently the men ain’t half-bad, either. Just ask Cher.

Exactly how serious are Cher and Tim Medvetz? Enquiring minds want to know!/Credit National Enquirer

According to paparazzi and tabloid reports – including the July National Enquirer cover story, above – the 62-year-old singing sensation is definitely determined to “Turn Back Time” by dating a Jersey native 24 years her junior. But he’s not just any Jersey boy… he’s Tim Medvetz, a biker/mountain climber who’s been featured twice on the Discovery Channel series “Everest: Beyond the Limit.”

Yes, as in Mount Everest, the tallest mountain on Earth. And yes, he climbed it. Twice.

The reason why this news of Cher dating Tim – or, as I look at it, Tim dating Cher – is so fascinating to me is because I actually know him.

I’ve interviewed the 6’5″ Tim, who builds and sells Harley Davidsons and hails from Colonia, N.J., a couple of times – both in conjunction with the “Everest” series and his experiences climbing 29,028-foot behemoth. I must say he’s a pretty cool dude, and I enjoyed our conversations. During the first interview – alas, I’ve only ever spoken to him on the phone or via e-mail, since he calls Los Angeles home – I was struck by the adversity he’s faced in life, much less climbing Everest.

A devastating motorcycle crash in 2001 left him part-man, part-Terminator: two metal plates in his skull, 10 screws in his left knee, six screws in his foot, a broken finger and a shattered lower back, which was fused together with bolts and a titanium mesh cage.

You can get a pretty good sense of Tim’s personality in this Discovery Channel video. To learn more about what makes Tim tick, read my interviews with him here and here.

I last heard from Tim a few months ago, when my job at a New Jersey newspaper was eliminated. He wished me well, and in typical Tim fashion, suggested I enjoy the freedom for a while and take off for parts unknown.

Meanwhile, I have no idea how serious his relationship with Cher is, though Extra last night showed them hanging out at the Malibu Fair over the weekend. To watch the video, go here.

Update

It’s time to set the record straight, and I’ve got the scoop:

There is no romantic relationship between Jersey boy Tim Medvetz and pop superstar Cher. The pair are simply good friends who hang out together (with other mutual friends).

How do I know this? Because Tim told me so. Get the full story here.

Michael Jackson belonged to everyone

So Us Weekly is reporting that many of the individuals who eulogized/performed at Michael Jackson’s memorial service had either never met him or barely knew him.

michaeljackson

And this is significant why?

On the surface, yes, it is a little odd that those who knew him best – Diana Ross, Quincy Jones, Elizabeth Taylor – were not present at the televised event. Then again, maybe it’s because they knew Michael so well that they didn’t attend. Perhaps they wished to honor his memory in a more private way, out of the glare of the spotlight. Considering the lengths Michael went to while alive to keep his private life private, that certainly makes sense.

But for those who did attend and memorialize him in the way they thought best – Queen Latifah, John Mayer, Jennifer Hudson – that doesn’t make their appreciation, reverence, admiration and sadness any less sincere.  The thousands of fans gathered at the Staples Center (and millions more like me watching around the world) didn’t know him personally, either, but that doesn’t mean their feelings don’t matter. Michael Jackson belonged to everyone.

Sorry, Us Weekly, but I’m not buying it.

Jesse James speaks

I heard Jesse James – who most recently starred in “The Celebrity Apprentice” on NBC – stopped by The Howard Stern Show on Sirius Radio this week.

Jesse’s appearance was to promote his new Spike show, “Jesse James is a Dead Man” (which premieres at 10 p.m. May 31), but he was also apparently thrilled to meet the King of All Media.

“I feel like I’ve finally made it,” he told Howard. “I’ve done ’60 Minutes’ and everything else, but being here…”

Naturally, Howard’s two favorite subjects for the biker were the women in his life, both past and present: ex-wife and porn star Janine Lindemulder and current wife and famous actress Sandra Bullock.

Of his marriage to Janine (who is currently serving time in jail for tax evasion and with whom he has a young daughter, Sunny), Jesse said, “Sometimes things aren’t what they seem… I more got into that relationship for everybody else. So guys like you would think I was cool.”

When Howard asked Jesse if he would recommend marrying a porn star to other guys, Jesse said, “Just buy the DVD.”

As for his relationship with Sandra, Jesse said, “I’ve always been honest with her right from the start. I was like, ‘Hey, I dated a porn star’ and ‘Hey, we’re having a kid.’ At several points, I expected her to turn around and run.”

Jesse explained that the pair met when she brought her godson to tour the set of his show, “Monster Garage.”

“I kind of automatically figured she was a b*tch,” he admitted. “But she’s smart and looks you in the eye when she talks to you… so I contacted her assistant and said, ‘Hey, I wanna ask her out.’ So I asked her out and she said no.”

To those of you who saw Jesse in action on “Celebrity Apprentice” it’s not a surprise that he didn’t give up.

“We kinda emailed back and forth for a couple months… it was the first relationship I’d ever been in that was (preceded) by a courtship.”

Jesse said he didn’t get to kiss Sandra until the second date.

“And she kissed me,” he told Howard. “Caught me off guard, too.”

It was a few months before they finally sealed the deal and slept together. But apparently, it was worth it: “It was awesome,” he confirmed.

Winning the trust of Sandra’s friends was a lot more difficult.

“All her friends. 100 percent,” he said. “They were like, ‘Absolutely no way.'”

Howard asked him if he ever thought about Sandra’s past Hollywood boyfriends (who include Matthew McConaughey and Ryan Gosling) but Jesse laughed it off.

“None of those dudes can weld,”  he said.

And in an interview with the New York Daily News, Jesse revealed that one of the reasons he wanted to do “Celebrity Apprentice” was to meet – and apologize to – Olympic figure skater Scott Hamilton.

It turns out a teenage Jesse stole Scott’s 1985 Porsche Targe from outside the skater’s San Diego apartment. Although Jesse was never caught for the deed, it’s a burden he’s apparently carried around with him.

“I always felt bad about it,” he told the Daily News. “I figured I’d never have a chance to say anything to him.”

Until the night Scott was fired and Jesse followed him out of  Trump Tower.

“He looked at me,” Scott said. “I could tell he was concerned. He said, ‘I never made it right with you.’ Once I knew the whole story, I thought it was kind of funny to learn 20 years later that Jesse James stole my car and stripped it.”

“I was sorry,” Jesse confessed. “It was like a huge monkey off my back.”
