Hugh Laurie and the "House" cast: Say farewell./Photo credit Fox

Fox has pulled the plug on its hugely popular series “House.” The show, currently in its eighth season, takes place at the fictitious Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. According to Entertainment Weekly, the series will wrap up the end of this season. The mag also reports that star Hugh Laurie said in November that he planned on retiring from television acting once the show ended. Meanwhile, the real Princeton-based hospital is flourishing: it is scheduled to move to a new, state of the art facility in May and officially be renamed University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro. Who says life doesn’t (at least partly) imitate art?

“True Blood” takes a queen

News about the upcoming, highly anticipated second season of “True Blood” is coming fast and furious these days.

The most intriguing of which is that Evan Rachel Wood has been cast to play the Vampire Queen of Louisiana, Sophie-Anne Leclerq. Now, although I’ve been reading all of Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse books, I haven’t yet reached the one that prominently features Sophie-Anne (that would be “All Together Dead”; I’m midway through “Definitely Dead” at the moment), so I’m not up on my Sophie stats. But here’s what both Entertainment Weekly and Just Jared say about her:

*She’s 500 years old;
*She’s from France;
*She is charming, wily, ruthless and wise;
*She’s extremely diplomatic;
*She’s got friends in high places.

Evan, you may recall, recently played Mickey Rourke’s lesbian daughter in “The Wrestler” (which, it just so happens, was released on DVD this week; I love, love, love this movie! And not just because it was filmed in my home state of New Jersey – though that helps).  You may also recall that Evan, who is just 21, had a relationship with goth shock rocker Marilyn Manson.  While watching the SAG Awards back in January, I was shocked to realize how much Evan resembles Marilyn’s ex-wife, burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese. Take a look and tell me you don’t see it, too:

Is it real or is it Memorex?

Is it real or is it Memorex? Dita, on left, and Evan.

Anyway, my point is that Marilyn likes a specific look. Oh, and Just Jared reports that he and Evan are back together again.

Henry Cavill of “The Tudors” is bound for the big screen

Hot, hottie, hot.

Believe me, ladies, I had the opportunity to see Henry up close and personal during a “Tudors” viewing last year in New York City…  Let’s just say the television – and I assume movies, too – do not do him justice.

What else is there to say about Henry Cavill, the dashing young actor who plays Henry VIII’s friend, Charles Brandon, in Showtime’s “The Tudors”? Well, I’ve got something else to say: Not only will Henry be back when the “The Tudors” returns for its third sensual season on Sunday, April 5, but he will also be starring in a new Woody Allen film called “Whatever Works,” which, according to IMDB, is set to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in April and be released more widely in the summer. It also stars Larry David, Patricia Clarkson and Kristen Johnston.

The above photograph shows Henry and Evan Rachel Wood (most recently from “The Wrestler”) in a scene from the film.
