Only in Jersey: 2/22/12

Happy Wednesday!  It’s time for another edition of Only in Jersey!

If it’s filming in Jersey, takes place in Jersey, or is about celebs from Jersey, you will find it here.

Whitney Houston: We will always love you JUST LIKE THIS.

Another day, more Whitney Houston drama. In addition to the pop star’s Westfield cemetery plot being indefinitely closed to the public, tabloid rag The National Enquirer has made the tacky, tasteless decision to publish – on its front page, no less – an unauthorized photo of the Newark/East Orange native in her casket. The photo was apparently taken by someone who attended the visitation at Newark’s Whigham Funeral Home last week, and the natural assumption is that that same someone made beau coup bucks by selling it to the Enquirer. I don’t know about you, but I prefer to remember Whitney alive – and obviously her family wants us to, as well, otherwise they would’ve opened the casket during the televised funeral on Saturday.  The sight of her lifeless body (even if the funeral home’s restorative artist did a beautiful job) is the last thing I want to see as I’m checking out at the grocery store.

Forget about country boys – thank God for Jersey boys!

That’s what I’m sure millions of women will say when this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly hits the stands and they feast their eyes on Paul Wesley, star of The CW hit series “The Vampire Diaries.” Paul, who was born in New Brunswick and raised in Marlboro, graces the magazine with (depending on which one of three covers you pick) costars Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder. Paul’s character, Stefan Salvatore, the show’s resident “good” vampire, went rogue this season while his brother, Damon (Somerhalder), has taken over the hero vampire role. Don’t expect it to last.

Dr. Jennifer Melfi may have been primarily concerned with the health of her psychiatric patient, Tony Soprano, in ‘The Sopranos,” but her alter ego, actress Lorraine Bracco, has made her own health a top priority. And she has her late parents to thank for it.

Lorraine Bracco signed copies of her memoir, "On the Couch," during her appearance in Martinsville, NJ, on Feb. 19./ Photos by Ava Gacser

“I don’t want to put off anything until it’s too late like they did,” Lorraine confessed to a crowd of about 250 during a Somerset Medical Center program entitled “Talking about Your Heart!” held on Feb. 19 at the Martinsville Inn.

“I want to be healthy,” she said, adding that she quit smoking years ago. “I want to do whatever it takes me to enjoy my children and my future grandchildren.”

Lorraine lost both her mother and father to heart-related diseases within 11 days of one another in November 2010. That time – and the many months of illness leading up to it – was a “huge roller coaster ride” for her.

Jesse James on post-Oscar high

Am I the only one who bursts into tears each and every time I see Jesse James with tears in his eyes?

He did it again Sunday night at the Oscars. And – as if it wasn’t already impossible not to love the guy – he has to then go and gush to People how much wife Sandra Bullock means to him.

“She’s beautiful. She’s amazing. She takes my breath away,” Jesse confessed to People. “Sometimes I look at her and I do, I just lose my breath.”

Jesse – who obviously feels much more comfortable in jeans and a T-shirt – doesn’t mind dressing up if it’s for Sandra.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to support my wife and her work,” he continues. “She does it all the time for me. She goes to Mexico, to the desert, to the hospital – a lot – to support me and my work. The least I can do is put on a suit and support her.”

Sigh.

Fortunately, Jesse is also more than willing to show his playful side, as evidenced by the following “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” clip featuring the very funny Ross Mathews:
