“Jon & Kate Plus 8”: They’re baaaaaaack!!!

You know the song “How Can I Miss You If You Won’t Go Away”? Apparently Jon and Kate Gosselin are not familiar with it.

You would think that after that “Jon & Kate Plus 8” finale the other week – the one in which Jon expressed serious but completely understandable reservations about doing the show any more – the Pennsylvania parents of eight might take a few months off and seriously ponder their future. After all, all the money in the world isn’t going to save a marriage. Or is it?

Well, either Jon has reconsidered, Kate has convinced him to continue or his concerns were much ado about nothing, because TLC has announced that the show will indeed return for a fifth season.

What’s not known is whether any pressure was exerted on the Gosselins to return for more episodes – or if they were contractually bound to do so. But you better believe the most recent season finale had some sort of impact: The episode was viewed by over 4.6 million people and, according to Entertainment Weekly, beat CBS, Fox, NBC and The CW among women 18 to 34. As a matter of fact, the episode was the show’s highest rated ever.

So, in an effort to strike while the iron is hot, you can expect to see the debut of a fifth “Jon & Kate Plus 8” season in little more than a month’s time. But don’t think that there won’t be anything between now and then; the family will be featured in a one-hour special at 9 p.m. Sunday, April 19, called “Jon & Kate Plus 8 Go Green,” in which they make their new home more eco-friendly. Here is TLC’s description of the show:

“The Gosselin family is going green this year with the help of Planet Green’s ‘Renovation Nation’ host, Steve Thomas. From solar panels to eco-friendly lightbulbs, the family is transforming their new house into an eco-savy home.”

Sounds scintillating, doesn’t it? Too bad they didn’t spell savvy right.

Oh, and don’t forget: The fourth season of the show – which features Jon & Kate renewing their wedding vows in Hawaii – will be released on DVD May 5.
